What does ‘Speak Well’ mean?

IMG_4567.jpeg

‘Speak Well’ does not mean having a posh voice – or a particular accent.

‘Speak Well’ means being clearly heard and understood by the audience you are speaking to.

It means fulfilling your speaking aim – whether that’s to motivate, persuade, entertain, inspire...

Or simply to inform.

Cute Baby Boy

Everyone is born with a free voice (as parents of new babies know only too well) but all of us develop vocal habits that can limit our expressiveness.

Spoken-voice exercises take us outside our habitual ranges of pitch, pace and power and allow us to explore our voices – while exercises on context explore audience connection.

Ultimately, to ‘Speak Well’ means connecting with your voice – whether that be to friends, peers or an audience of thousands.
